The Go Wild with the Locals tour offers visitors to tropical north Queensland the chance to get up close and personal with Australia's unique wildlife...cute and quirky creatures like the rock wallaby, platypus, bandicoot and possum.
If you would like to meet some of the most interesting locals that live in Cairns, then book on this exciting and fun wildlife safari.
Sit back and relax in air-conditioned comfort aboard a JPT luxury coach while you travel through World Heritage Wetland Tropics to the dry country enroute to Granite Gorge Nature Park where you will feed the Mareeba Rock Wallabies. These marsupial mammals look forward to meeting you and being hand fed.
Your friendly local guide will point out the special features of the Cairns Highlands, a unique and special part of Queensland's ecology.
On arrival at Bonadio's Mabi Wildlife Reserve JPT guests will delight at the visual spectacular of Mark Culleton's Birds of Prey and Animal Show. The next stop is the tranquil banks of the Barron River for sightseeing and birdwatching and the group will relax and settle in until dusk to search for the famous, and very shy, Australian monotreme, the platypus. These extraordinary creatures are only found in eastern Australia where they live in freshwater rivers or lakes, in burrows. This curious creature swims with its eyes shut!
As evening falls tour guests retreat for dinner beside the Mabi Rainforest. Try dining on kangaroo or crocodile meat or a hearty steak meal with salads, dessert, tea and coffee. Other drinks are at your own expense.
The finale of the tour is a night rainforest walk spotlighting for nocturnal creatures.
