Depart at 9.30am for the historic and world famous rail experience that is the Kuranda Scenic Railway constructed in 1886. Discover the pioneering past of Tropical North Queensland and be astounded by the magnificent engineering feats that made this construction through dense rainforest terrain possible with 15 tunnels, 93 curves and dozens of difficult bridges mounted above ravines and waterfalls.
You will have free time to enjoy shopping and dining in the rainforest oasis that is Kuranda Village with its upmarket restaurants, cafes and bars, exotic handcrafted goods, aboriginal artefacts, art, fresh produce and bric-a-brac before transferring to the Mabi Rainforest for the Gone Wild tour action.
Transfer by coach to a welcoming rainforest shack, barbecues and rest room facilities. There you will witness Mark Culleton's Birds of Prey and Animal Show from 5pm followed by a fully guided interpretive tour. The unforgettable "Gone Wild with the Locals" Tour will introduce you to some of the most enchanting and rare rainforest wildlife. Meet a variety of Australian natives including pademelons, possums, bats, bandicoots, the endangered Lumholtz tree kangaroo, and even that elusive and extraordinary monotreme, the platypus.
The finale to an excellent Aussie evening is a traditional barbecue dinner and night time adventure trek into the darkened Mabi rainforest to discover a lively nocturnal community.
